Newborn Lifestyle Session // Seattle, WA

This post illustrates why I love shooting newborn sessions in the client's home.  My last post featured a lovely family/newborn session in our studio, but I wanted to share the alternative of shooting a newborn session in the home.  This session also took place on a dark and rainy day, and although there were concerns about shooting in their home, I think these photos prove that it really doesn't matter if you have messes, unfinished home improvement projects, or less than ideal lighting in your home.  If you have windows and a place for everyone to sit and feel comfortable, I'm pretty much good to go.

I met the Opsata family a year ago when they got in touch with me to capture some family photos at one of their favorite parks.  Unfortunately, it was this exact same time of year, so it rained off and on throughout their entire session.  I knew that rain was going to be a possibility again, but I really wanted to make sure they had a better experience than the last and since they had a new baby, their comfort was my top priority.  I always do what I can to make everyone comfortable during our time together, but no matter where we shoot, it will never compare to the comfort of your own home.  Once I arrived at their home and Lauren showed me around, I knew that we were going to get some really great shots.  The light was pretty much perfect, the house was warm and comfortable, and Harrison was totally pumped to get in the frame.  We even managed to capture a special shot of Harrison holding his new baby brother, Raleigh, for the very first time.  We didn't expect that to happen for us, but it was an awesome little surprise at the end of a very perfect little family session.  Here are a few of my favorites from our time together.
